The doctor will ask you questions about your medical history including any illnesses, surgeries, hospitalizations, drug and alcohol use, and medications. You will have to provide a urine specimen for urinalysis. In this test the doctor checks the urine for blood, protein, glucose, and the specific gravity.
There is a vision test and commercial drivers must have at least 20/40 vision in each eye, be able to recognize colors, and have peripheral vision of at least 70 degrees. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you will need them for your vision test.
The hearing test may be done using a forced whisper, in which case you should be able to hear from at least 5ft in the better ear. If you wear hearing aid you will need them for your examination.
The doctor will check your blood pressure and pulse (Your ideal blood pressure should be less than 140/90); look into your eyes, ears, and mouth; listen to your heart and lungs; listen over your carotid arteries and abdominal aorta, check you for the presence of hernia, check your skin and your extremities including the joints. Be prepared to show that you have good grip and joint functions.
If all is well you will be issued your medical card and your long form. A copy is kept in this office.
